Born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, Peta Murgatroyd has been dancing since the age of four. Her intensive training started with classic ballet where she studied for 12 years under one of the renowned Kirov Ballet’s former principal dancers, Madame Lubov Nikonorenko. She added to her dance repertoire with training in contemporary and Spanish dance. Since beginning ballroom dancing, she quickly became an Australian State Champion, which led to her move to London to further her burgeoning career.
Among her myriad of international competitions, Peta was a finalist in the Australian Open Championships. Another memorable success came in 2006 when Peta placed third in the world in the British Youth Latin Championships in Blackpool.
She was then chosen to be a cast member of the worldwide sensation, “Burn the Floor,” which sold more than 4 million tickets in over 30 countries. Peta toured the world with the show for six years and then landed on Broadway in August 2009 where she was the lead female dancer. After achieving her lifelong goal of performing on Broadway, Peta ended her run with the production to pursue a career in television and film.
In 2011, Peta was cast on ABC’s hit show “Dancing with the Stars” and was able to share both her dance ability and choreography talent with the world. During her eight seasons on the show, Peta has been paired with many notable celebrities, and in only her second season, Peta and Green Bay Packer’s star Donald Driver won the coveted Mirror Ball Trophy.
As a talented choreographer and dancer, Peta has worked and performed with a diverse roster of artists including Heart, Rod Stewart and Enrique Iglesias.
Peta has also performed on “So You Think You Can Dance” in Australia and Holland. She toured with the ballroom dancing company Ballroom with a Twist for their Canadian tour in 2010. Peta recently showcased her talent on the “Perfect Ten Tour,” which brought both new and popular routines from the ABC show to live audiences across the country.
Peta is currently getting ready for her fourth performance in Dance with Me Studios’ SWAY show, where she can be seen presenting the glamour and passion of ballroom and Latin dancing in a whole new way alongside the industry’s top professional dancers.
Peta has graced the covers of Pilates Style, CV Luxury and BE! Magazines and has been featured in magazines such as Us Weekly, People, Regard, OK! and Life & Style.
Peta is also the face and body of South Seas Tan, the exclusive tanning company of “Dancing with the Stars.” Her passion for glamour, health and style led her to develop and launch her first product line, Peta Jane, in partnership with South Seas Skin Care. Since she was a little girl, Peta has been mixing and blending lipsticks, foundations, moisturizers and tanning lotions to her preferences, and now she is able to share products that fit her personality and style with consumers.
Peta is passionate about giving back, including raising awareness for breast cancer, as her mom is a survivor. She has also supported the Susan G. Komen Foundation with their Inspiration Awards and Childhelp, a non-profit charity aiding the victims of child abuse.
